Max Verstappen has won the Austrian Grand Prix in the most thrilling fashion after producing one of the most remarkable comebacks in recent Formula One history.
The 21-year-old Red Bull driver recovered from dropping to 7th to battle past Ferrari’s Sharl Leclerr, also 21, with two laps remaining.
The pair were the youngest top two finishers in F1 history, while Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottash came home 3rd.
With the victory, Verstappen, who also won last year’s race at the Spielberg Circuit, ended Mercedes’ run of 10 wins in a row.
However, the Dutchman’s dramatic overtaking move, which resulted in a wheel-banging was immediately announced as under investigation by the stewards and was confirmed some 3 hours later.
Five-time Defending world champion Lewis Hamilton, who finished 5th, remains well in front in the standings, 31 clear of Finland’s Bottash after 9 of 21 races.
